The popularity of podcasts is skyrocketing right now, reaching a third of all adults in the UK every month. So choosing the right topic to discuss on your podcast is key for ensuring its success and building an engaged following. If you can choose a topic that interests you, then this will keep you motivated and your enthusiasm will come across in each of your episodes. To help you we’ve drawn up a list of more than fifty podcast topic ideas for you to consider for your show.

What is a podcast?
A podcast is an audio programme which can be downloaded or streamed via the internet. Listened to by millions across the world, they are an accessible way for individuals, brands and organisations to share their story or explore topical issues. Podcasts aren’t limited to one topic area, covering everything from fictional stories, to current affairs, to pop culture, and cooking.
What is a podcast topic?
When you’re chatting to friends or colleagues, your discussion will be focused around a particular topic or topics. Maybe you’ll be catching up, discussing something you saw in the news or debating the ending of a movie. This is the same for podcasts which focus on a particular topic and give the speakers something to hang their discussion on.
Choosing the right topic for you and your podcast is incredibly important. Choose the wrong topic and you risk becoming bored, losing enthusiasm and stumping the growth of your audience. Your topic should be broad enough that it allows you to explore whatever interests you or reflects your brand, but focused enough that your podcast has a clear identity which will allow it to stand out against the many other podcasts that already exist.
